Chea Sim Leads Trip to King

King Norodom Sihanouk hosted a high-powered CPP delegation for lunch on Wednesday, palace and party officials said.

It was the second high-profile CPP delegation to visit the King at his Siem Reap villa in less than a week. No other political figures have visited the monarch since the July 26 election.

CPP President Chea Sim, Honorary President Heng Samrin, party standing committee member Chea Soth and Pen Siman, an adviser to Chea Sim, traveled to Siem Reap town Wednesday morning. They returned in the afternoon, said Oum Sarith, Chea Sim’s cabinet director.

“I do not know the details,’’ Oum Sarith said, saying only it was a courtesy visit after the vote.

Ke Kim Se, an aide to the King, confirmed the lunch meeting.

Second Prime Minister Hun Sen, also the CPP vice president, led a team to visit the King last Thursday. Top party officials Sar Kheng, Tea Banh, Sok An and Say Chhum accompanied him to talk to King Sihanouk about the next government.

Hun Sen announced after the meeting he and the King proposed a three-way coalition be formed between the CPP, Funcinpec and the Sam Rainsy Party.
