A 22-year-old Canadian woman was killed and a 22-year-old American man seriously injured early Tuesday in a motorcycle accident in Sihanoukville town, police said.
Diane Samantha Chapman died from neck injuries when the 250cc motorcycle she was traveling on went out of control in front of Sihanoukville High School shortly after midnight Monday, said Tak Vantha, Sihanoukville deputy military police chief.
“According to the police report, the 250cc Honda motorcycle was driving very fast on a road with no street lights and the driver did not know the route well,” said Tak Vantha. He said alcohol didn’t appear to be a factor in the crash. It was unclear who was driving the vehicle.
Heng Taikry, Calmette Hospital’s director-general, said the man, who suffered head injuries, was transferred Tuesday afternoon from a Sihanoukville hospital to Calmette in Phnom Penh.
A spokeswoman for the US Embassy confirmed reports of the accident but had few details and wouldn’t disclose the injured man’s name.
