Cambodia’s Hun Sen Fires Deputy Governors Involved in Land Dispute Crackdown

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has ordered two deputy governors fired for their role in suppressing a land-rights protest on Jan. 24 in southwest Cambodia’s Sihanoukville province in which military police violently attacked villagers resisting eviction, sources said.

The order removed from office deputy governors Srun Sron and Phay Bunvannak, Hun Sen wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.

“Today, I forced myself to fire two Sihanoukville deputy governors,” Hun Sen said, adding, “I must remove the gravel and sand from my shoes in order to move forward.”
