Owners of the Hotel Cambodiana have not renewed their contract with Sofitel, the management brand of the international hotel management chain Accor.
The 10-year contract expired last month, said Spachai Pooleiam, hotel resident manager. He would not say why the Singapore-based Cambodiana Investment Co, which owns the hotel, didn’t renew. Jorgen Christensen, Sofitel’s Phnom Penh-based marketing director, called the split a “natural” separation. The Cambodiana is now managed independently by the Singaporean investor with a marketing partnership with Bangkok-based Global Distribution Services, Spachai said. “We have started new things….We are trying to make it better,” he said.
The Hotel Cambodiana, which opened in 1990 with Sofitel, was the country’s first five-star hotel.
