Hok Sochetra scored two goals and Souer Chanveasna added a third as Cambodia defeated Laos 3-0 Saturday at the Tiger Cup football championships in Thailand.
It was the first victory for Cambodia since it returned to international competition in 1995. Hok Sochetra opened the scoring in the 59th minute, taking a pass from defender Chea Sameth and scoring from 25 meters out. Souer Chanveasna made it 2-0 in the 70th minute, assisted by Ung Kayanith. Hok Sochetra finished the scoring when he knocked a goal in from 20 meters out in the 77th minute.
On Thursday, Cambodia lost in a 3-2 decision to Malaysia. After falling behind 3-0, Cambodia narrowed the gap with goals by Pok Chanthan in the 73rd minute and Hok Sochetra in the 86th minute. Cambodia finished 1-4 in the preliminary round and didn’t make it to the semifinals.
