Cambodia to ramp up implementation of global chemical treaties

The country is yet to adopt national chemicals policy.

Cambodia has been granted UN funding to coordinate and improve implementation of global chemicals treaties, the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions.

The country has ratified the conventions, which set out provisions for managing different aspects of chemicals.

However, recent economic development, population growth and rapid industrialisation are “posing an increasing threat to Cambodia’s environmental future,” and it is therefore imperative that the conventions are implemented and enforced, the UN Environment Programme (Unep) says.
