In regard to the planned increase of Cambodian-U.S. trade described in your article, “Trade Visit Shows Other Side of U.S.-Cambodia Ties,” (July 16, page 1), I hope that the National Assembly elected on July 28 will immediately hold hearings on whether such trade expansion is appropriate, given the current human rights situation in the U.S.
Any increase of imports from the U.S. should be blocked until that country’s government demonstrates an effective program to prevent impunity for racial murderers. They have had a century and a half since the nominal end of slavery; Cambodia and the rest of the world should no longer be satisfied with promises of future improvement.
