Cambodia sees rise in road fatalities during traditional New Year holiday

Phnom Penh – Road traffic accidents killed at least 38 Cambodians and injured 140 others during the Khmer New Year holiday on April 14-16, according to a report from the National Police on Tuesday.

“A total of 85 road accidents occurred across the country during this year’s holiday period, up 54 percent compared with 55 cases during the same period last year,” the report said.

“The main causes of road accidents are excessive speeding, alcohol driving, overtaking, and other traffic law violations,” the report said.
