Cambodia has banned Buddhist monks from collecting alms or money in crowded public places and buildings, and those who continue to do so risk being defrocked.
The Supreme Sangha Council made the ruling to prevent unscrupulous people from wearing monk robes and collecting money from people.
The deputy head of the Supreme Sangha Council Khy Sovanratana told The Phnom Penh Post that the directive was effective from Monday.
