A French businessman was wounded by gunfire Friday night while driving in Phnom Penh.
Jean Michael Faucher, 45, the director of the Dumez GTM construction company, stopped at a traffic light on Monivong Boulevard just after 7 pm when a motorcyclist pulled beside his car and shot him in his right leg. He was taken to Calmette Hospital, treated and discharged Saturday, a Dumez spokesman said.
Penal Police Chief Khuon Sophon said the shooting motive is not yet clear, but authorities are investigating the chance of a personal or business dispute. He said the shooter rode a motorcycle, possibly Korean-made, and was alone.
Foreign police chief Mok Chito said his investigators “only needed an arrest warrant from the municipal court” for a suspect, whom he wouldn’t identify.
