Builder Killed by Falling Co-Workers in Kratie

A 23-year-old worker was killed at a construction site in Kratie province on Saturday after two of his colleagues fell from the second floor and crushed him, an official said.

Tim Rothny, from Kompong Speu province, was passing tools and materials up to the second floor of a building at a cassava factory owned by Chinese firm China Dynamics when the accident occurred, according to Bun Chhoeun, Sambor district police chief.

So Song, 27, from Kompong Speu province, and Ket Ponleu, 22, from Kompong Thom province, had been drilling tin sheets to the building’s ceiling when the metal scaffolding they were standing on broke away, causing them and the metal to fall and land on the victim, killing him instantly, Mr. Chhoeun said.

Mr. Song and Mr. Ponleu were treated at the Kratie Provincial Referral Hospital for a broken leg and torso injuries, he said, adding that no charges will be brought against the men.

None of the men had been wearing protective gear, according to Noy Sythach, deputy district police chief.
