The Taiwanese manager of a bubble tea restaurant was shot dead inside his establishment on Monivong Boulevard in the early hours of Wednesday morning, police said.
Lu Ying Jen, 33, was doing administrative work at a desk at Paris Bubble Tea when a gunman shot him three times at about 12:45 am, according to Saom Kinal, chief of police in Prampi Makara district’s O’Russei IV commune.
“He was a great gentleman. He ran his business since he started out with a small shop, until his business got bigger,” Saom Kinal said, adding that the restaurant was very popular.
The gunman behaved like a client and went to get a drink before opening fire on his victim from a distance of about one and a half meters, Saom Kinal said.
At Wat Koh, Lu Ying Jen’s wife and his female staff wept at his coffin Wednesday. Female staff said their boss was shot twice in the neck and once in the chest.
His body is due to be cremated today, before his ashes are sent back to Taiwan, the organizer of the funeral said.
The killing was likely prompted by jealousy relating to Lu Ying Jen’s business success, Reach Sokhon, municipal judicial police chief said.
“Our police are investigating,” Reach Sokhon said. “The killer is a professional.”
Lu Ying Jen is survived by a wife and two children, Saom Kinal said.
