British Man Gets 7 Years for Sexually Abusing Two Boys

A British national was sentenced to seven years in prison Thursday for sexually abusing four boys at a cafe he owned in Battambang City, police and the victims’ lawyer said Thursday.

Chea Nara, who represented the four boys on behalf of anti-pedophile NGO Action pour les Enfants, said the Battambang Provincial Court charged Jonathan Steward on multiple counts of having sex with a minor under the age of 15.

“For me, the court’s decision is correct,” Mr. Nara said.

Provincial anti-human trafficking police chief Koy Hieng said Mr. Steward was arrested in 2013 when police found him with two boys in the bedroom of a cafe he owned in Battambang City.

A subsequent police investigation into the Briton found that he had sexually abused four boys, Mr. Hieng said.

“Our police were suspicious of the man because there were always homeless boys in his cafe,” he said.
