Body Found in Suspected Murder, Robbery

The body of a taxi driver was found in Preah Vihear province on Friday, a week after he left his home in Kompong Thom province to drive two male passengers to Siem Reap City, police said Sunday.

The victim, Muy Ky, 32, left home on January 24 to take the unknown men to Siem Reap and never contacted his family again, according to Sim Say, police chief of Chheb district in Preah Vihear.

His decomposing body was found by villagers in a wooded area of Chheb II commune on Friday, missing a watch and ring he habitually wore. His Toyota Camry was nowhere in sight.

The cause of death was not immediately apparent, Mr. Say said. Police are acting on the assumption that the crime was motivated by robbery and are seeking to arrest the two passengers in connection with the murder, the police chief added.

“We found nothing at the place where we found the body, although there were tire tracks leading to the spot, indicating that a car had driven there,” he said.
