Body Found in Sack in Kandal Province Pond

Police said Monday they were investigating the murder of a woman whose body was discovered in a rice sack floating in a Kandal province pond Monday morning.

A farmer discovered the sack at about 8 a.m. in Raka Khpos commune, but authorities have not yet identified the victim. Sa’ang district police chief Seng Socheat said the victim was approximately 60 years old and appeared to be poor.

“I think [the motive] is rancor because the victim is an old woman and not rich,” Mr. Socheat added.

The time of death is estimated to have been about 10 p.m. Sunday.

A rope was tied tightly enough around the dead woman’s neck to leave evident injuries, but no other wounds were found.

Police are trying to identify the body but do not believe that she was from Sa’ang district.

They suspect that two perpetrators were involved in the murder, Mr. Socheat said.

“I hope to arrest the suspects soon, but first we have to identify the victim,” he said.
