Basketbrawl Leads to Suspension

It’s unclear if the first season of the Bayon Airline Basketball League will see a champion crowned after a brawl erupted between two of its teams during a game over the weekend.

The Cambodia Basketball Federation announced the suspension of the league in a message posted to its Facebook page on Tuesday along with a video of the fracas at Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh.

“[T]his is necessary in order to enforce essential internal rules to prevent any act by individuals, fans, players, coaches, assistant coaches and team managers that are against the spirit of basketball,” the statement said, adding that a final decision would be issued shortly.

The cause of the fight between the Smart Dragons and An Hui teams was not clear. The video shows players and fans spilling onto the court, fly-kicking opponents and throwing chairs and punches at each other.
