Bad Fumes Send Factory Workers to Hospitals

Nearly 100 Phnom Penh garment workers were sickened and evacuated, and several dozen hospitalized, after noxious fumes wafted through their workplace.

The incident occurred Friday morning at the San San Garment Co of Cambodia, police officials said. Although none of the victims were in life-threatening condition, about 60 of the workers remained in various hospitals Sunday, Meanchey district police chief Pol Muth said.

Police are not sure what caused the incident, which occurred at about 9:30 am, but were continuing with their investigation, Pol Muth said. One possibility may be rolls of new material imported from overseas, the chief said.
