Baby elephant dies in Cambodia due to illness

A week-old elephant calf, found alone last week in the Phnom Prich Wildlife Sanctuary in northeast Cambodia’s Mondulkiri province, died on Monday despite experts trying to save it, Environment Ministry spokesman Neth Pheaktra said on Tuesday.

“We regret and are saddened by the death of this female elephant calf after days of caring,” he told Xinhua.

Mondulkiri provincial environment department said in a press release that the elephant calf was found on Friday and died on Monday morning due to stomach and mouth illnesses.
