At Interior Ministry, 7 Officials Named Undersecretary of State

Interior Minister Sar Kheng on Wednesday presided over a ceremony in Phnom Penh to promote seven officials, including Cambodian News Channel editor Huy Vannak, to the position of undersecretary of state.

The minister also promoted seven officials to the rank of lieutenant general and 32 to the rank of major general.

Speaking during the ceremony at the ministry compound, Mr. Kheng, who last month himself was granted the rare royal title of “samdech,” which is held by only five other civilians, said the promotions represented both a reward for hard work and a prod to work harder.

“I would like to express happiness with his and her excellencies, and ladies and gentlemen who have been promoted,” Mr. Kheng said. “This is an encouragement to push ahead with your missions and duties and get even better.”

Yun Chhunny, a police official who was on Wednesday named one of the new Interior Ministry undersecretaries of state, said it was an honor to be bestowed with a position in the ministry.

“Today is the greatest day for all of us, on which we all receive the honor and trust from the government and the leader of the Interior Ministry,” General Chhunny said. “We are very happy.”

Also promoted to undersecretary of state, according to a letter signed by Mr. Kheng, was Sao Rany, the secretary-general of the defunct Norodom Ranariddh Party.
