After a three-month break, the National Assembly is set to reopen today. The sole order of business is a report by Assembly President Prince Norodom Ranariddh on the Assembly’s activities, said Deputy Secretary General Chan Ven. He also will discuss his recent trip to Bangladesh where he was appointed deputy chairman of the Asian Inter-Parliamentary Union.
A draft law to pave the way for a local trial of Khmer Rouge leaders could be debated, as well as legislation on commercial banks and financial enterprises.
Not on the agenda, said Chan Ven, is questioning of Cabinet Minister Sok An by opposition politicians who allege he accepted a bribe to keep the Naga Floating Casino open.
Sam Rainsy Party official Son Chhay said he would keep pushing for Sok An to answer questions and will raise the subject when the Assembly’s permanent committee meets.
