Arrests Made Following Container Truck Heist

Police arrested three men on Friday night for the theft of a container truck full of garments that was on its way to Sihanoukville Autonomous Port from Phnom Penh, the second heist in a week of goods bound for the overseas market, police say.

Police arrested Bi Sokhchea, 36, Ly Polin, 23, and Ny Sokhna, 23, about 2 km off National Road 4 in Preah Sihanouk’s Kompong Seila district, said district police chief Hy Duong.

“At 11:10 p.m., our forces surrounded the scene, arrested the men and confiscated three cars that were parked nearby,” he said, adding that police were still searching for the driver of the truck and other suspected accomplices.

Police believe the robbery may be connected to a similar robbery on Friday, when six men dressed as police officers hijacked another container truck on the same stretch of road.

In that case one arrest was made, but an unknown number of other suspects escaped.

Deputy provincial police chief Kol Phally said the investigation was ongoing.

“We are questioning the suspects and will bring them to the court to be charged tomorrow,” he said.
