Another TV Host Reported Missing, Police Say

Police in Kandal province are investigating the reported disappearance of former CTN television network host VJ Pov Theavy, after receiving a complaint from her parents in Kien Svay district, police said Sunday.

Pov Theavy, who was visiting her parents in Chhoeuteal commune, stepped outside to make a telephone call Thursday morning and has not been heard from since, said commune police chief Choub Sophy.

“We haven’t got any information so far,” he said, adding that it is difficult to investigate the case because Pov Theavy lives in Phnom Penh.

Pov Theavy’s brother, Pov Bunthoeun, declined to comment as to whether his sister had disappeared.

Kandal provincial police chief Iv Chamroeun said Sunday he was unaware of the case, but Kien Svay police chief said his officers were investigating.

“She is not living in this district, so it is hard to look for her,” he said by telephone.

Tep Vannak, senior producer with CTN and Pov Theavy’s former manager, said he had not seen Pov Theavy since she finished her contract with CTN in September.

“I have not met her since then, and I don’t even know her phone number,” he said.

Pov Theavy’s disappearance is reminiscent of last month’s highly publicized disappearance and reappearance of TV3 star Suon Pheakdei, better known as VJ Ano. After weeks of media reports on rumors that VJ Ano had been severely attacked and sent to hospital in Vietnam, she appeared, apparently unscathed, on a TV3 television program claiming the rumors were false.
