Acid Attacker Admits Guilt, Due in Court

A woman suspected of dousing her husband’s mistress in acid on Friday has confessed to carrying out the attack and will appear in court Monday to face charges, a police official said Sunday.

Yim Sarann, Pur Senchey district police chief, said 38-year-old garment worker Sroeun Nann admitted to police that she attacked Meas Vanny, a 20-year-old security guard at the Ho Hsin Tai shoe factory on Veng Sreng Street, because she discovered that Ms. Vanny was having an affair with her husband.

“When she learned the identity of the victim, she started to plan an acid attack, which she prepared a few days before,” Mr. Sarann said.

Mr. Sarann said that Ms. Vanny is in the hospital continuing to recover from burns to her face and body.

“It was a cruel attack and it is causing the victim more pain every day; a bullet can kill immediately, but acid eats away at someone step by step,” he said.

“We have finished questioning the suspect already and we will send her to the court [Monday].”
