A 29-year-old man was arrested in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district on Tuesday, accused of raping a 9-year-old relative.
The suspect, a cousin of the victim, confessed to Tumnok Toep commune police that he had raped the girl four times since May 2011, said deputy penal commune police chief Pak Sopheap. The man visited the victim’s house frequently to visit his mother, who lives with the victim’s family, added Mr Sopheap.
“The girl asked her mother, ‘If I tell you a story, please do not hit me,’” Mr Sopheap recounted, adding that the girl then told her mother that she had been attacked by the suspect. The suspect is currently being detained in Chamkar Mon district police station.
