Two people died in unrelated accidents over the Khmer New Year holiday, according to police in seven provinces.
In Pursat province, a man returning from a New Year party to his home in Sampao Meas district was killed Wednesday when his motorcycle crashed into a sign on Route 5, police said.
Sampao Meas district police Chief Len Song said the victim, Hout Seay, 30, was “drunk” and traveling so fast he didn’t see a sign warning of a detour near a bridge. The man died of head injuries Thursday at the provincial hospital.
In Kompong Chhnang, Noun Hak, 53, was shot to death at 9:45 pm Wednesday by two men as he cooked in his home in Kompong Leng district, police said.
Provincial police Chief Touch Sarim said it may have been a revenge killing, as Noun Hak was a former Khmer Rouge soldier.
Police reported a few accidents but no serious problems in Ratanakkiri, Koh Kong, Battambang, Kampot and Kompong Cham provinces.
