16-Year-Old Butchered to Death After Wedding Row

A teenager was hacked to death by a 22-year-old in Kompong Cham province on Sunday night following an argument at a wedding party in Kompong Siem district, police said.

According to district police chief Pak Cheat, the incident was provoked by a fight that broke out between two groups of youths who turned up uninvited at a wedding reception in O’Svay commune.

“At about 9:30 p.m., the victim stepped on the foot of the suspect and they got into an argument when he didn’t apologize,” Mr. Cheat said.

“They got into a small fight [and] one group left the party but the suspect went to get revenge and waited at the victim’s house, which was about 60 meters away.”

The suspect, Soeun Ruonh, allegedly attacked Thol Vandy with a machete when the victim got home, hacking off his left hand and opening a gash on the left side of his neck, Mr. Cheat said, adding that the victim was still alive when he was found and was brought to the provincial hospital, but died as a result of his wounds a short time later.

Mr. Cheat said police are searching for the suspect.
