Q&A: Greg Barron on the invention of zero and what it means for Cambodians

Editor’s note: Four decades after interviewing Cambodian refugees fleeing the Khmer Rouge, award-winning radio producer Greg Barron is preparing to tell a very different — and much older — story.

In his upcoming “Zero Project,” Barron will challenge the popular perception that the numeral for nothingness was invented in India, instead crediting pre-Angkorian Cambodia with this crucial contribution to mathematics, science and technology. Hong Chenda sat down with Barron at VOA’s Washington headquarters to discuss the project and its implications for Cambodia today
