There’s no denying that Cambodia’s Angkor has gone into mass tourism mode, its timeless feel all-too-easily obscured by the constant presence of tour groups. No longer the lost jungle ruins of popular imagination, this ancient city of the Khmers is now a carefully managed tourist spectacle—it’s so popular that last year’s increase in entrance fees did little to deter the two million visitors who came.
