Vietnam to close border gates with Laos, Cambodia to prevent virus outbreak

Vietnam will close its border gates and border crossings with Laos and Cambodia starting from Wednesday (April 1) in an effort to limit the spread of the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday (March 31).

Cambodia has denied entry to Vietnamese citizens since March 20 and Laos has banned entry at all of its international borders until April 19, according to the ministry.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on March 29 announced the suspension of all inbound flights into the country in the next two weeks in an effort to better control the Covid-19 outbreak.
