‘It is taking time’: Holland America cruisers wait to get off docked ship in Cambodia after being in limbo

It’s been an emotional ride for guests on board Holland America’s MS Westerdam. So much so, that Wednesday’s news that the ship was accepted by Cambodia, was met with a mixture of relief and skepticism. But now, the ship’s aimless journey is coming to a close: The ship has docked in Sihanoukville Cambodia, and passengers are waiting to disembark.

Holland America confirmed the disembarkation would begin on Friday but said the process would take a few days.

“The Cambodian Health Ministry has announced that the 20 samples taken onboard Westerdam have all been confirmed as negative for coronavirus by the Pasteur Laboratory in Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh. As stated in previous communications, there were never any suspected cases of coronavirus on board,” Holland America Line said in a statement provided by public relations director Erik Elvejord.
