Cambodia says COVID-19 quarantine violators face heavy fine

Cambodia’s Ministry of Health (MoH) said on Tuesday that any violators of the COVID-19 quarantine rules will be facing a fine of up to 250 U.S. dollars.

The move came after more than 1,100 people have been required to self-isolate at home for 14 days after they have had direct and indirect contact with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, who visited Cambodia on Nov. 3 and tested positive for the COVID-19 on Nov. 4 upon his arrival in Thailand on his Asia tour.

“Any individuals who do not abide by the MoH’s quarantine rules will be fined from 200,000 riels (50 U.S. dollars) to 1 million riels (250 U.S. dollars) and punished in accordance to the Criminal Law,” the MoH said in a statement.
