Cambodian PM’s plan to visit virus-hit Wuhan declined

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen planned to fly to China’s Wuhan, the epicenter of the new coronavirus outbreak, to cheer up Cambodian students stranded in the locked-down city on Wednesday, but Chinese authorities declined, citing the need to focus on containing the illness.

Posting on his Facebook page, Hun Sen said he had “informed Chinese leaders that he plans to visit Cambodian students studying in Wuhan on Feb. 5 to show them warmth and to prevent (them) from fearing the spread of a new strain of coronavirus.”

But, hours after his post, China said the local authorities in Wuhan were fully occupied with the hard work of dealing with the virus, making it impossible for them to welcome the Cambodian leader.
