Journalist Noan Sereiboth (@noansereiboth) published a press release from the Cambodia Rice Federation voicing their “deep concern” over EU safeguarding measures that might negatively impact millions of Cambodian rice farmers. The industry is struggling as it is, says the CRF, and it is asking the EU to reconsider. They see no competition with EU-grown rice.

US Immigration attorney Kevin Lo (@kevinchlo) has confirmed more deportation flights from the US. The next one will arrive arrive in Phnom Penh on December 19th with 46 deportees. He notes that families are allowed to give a 40-pound (18kg) bag to their loved ones for their trip “home”.

The ILO published its Global Wage Report. The report shows that real wage growth in Cambodia was among the highest in the region from 2013 to 2015, with average growth greater than 20%. Wage growth slowed to a still very respectable 9.3% in 2016. From 2008 to 2017, Cambodia averaged 11.5% growth, the third-fastest in the region after Timor-Leste and Myanmar.
