First steel has been cut for the minimum facilities wellhead platform (MiniPlatform) for Cambodia’s first offshore oilfield development.

The ceremony was held at the PT Profab1 facility on Batam Island, Indonesia, attended by officials from KrisEnergy, operator of the Apsara oilfield in Block A in the Gulf of Thailand, and a delegation from the Royal Government of Cambodia Apsara is in an unproduced geological basin, so KrisEnergy has opted to develop the field in phases in order to mitigate risk and to compile and analyze critical data for application in future phases.

The initial Mini Phase 1A will feature the Mini-Platform and five development wells connected to the Ingenium II production barge for oil, gas and water processing. Oil, due to start flowing in the first half of 2020, will be offloaded to shuttle tankers, with production building to a peak of 7,500 b/d. Upgrading and refurbishment of Ingenium II started at Keppel Shipyard Ltd’s Benoi facility in Singapore in November 2018.
