Cambodia’s garbage collectors strike ends after 2 weeks

The garbage collectors strike that has left the Cambodian capital city overflowing with tonnes of uncollected rubbish and made worse by flash floods is over after two weeks.

City authorities, the garbage collection firm Cintri (Cambodia) Ltd and the workers reached an agreement yesterday over the compensation issues raised by the workers.

The Cintri workers have now returned to work after the company agreed to terminate their contracts only at the end of January next year and provide seniority payments and other benefits to them in mid-February next year.
