The Cambodian government has begun its first phase of providing subsidies to some 275,747 workers from 513 factories involved in the manufacturing of garments, footwear and bags in Phnom Penh, Kandal province and Sihanoukville.
These are workers who were not able to work due the lockdown, and each will receive about US$40 as part of the social assistance programme.
Workers who are eligible for the handout would receive a text message or through a phone call from the ministry at the numbers provided by their respective employers, said Labour Minister Ith Samheng, according to Khmer Times.
