Woman Found Strangled in Phnom Penh Guesthouse

Police say they are searching for the killer of a woman whose body was found in a Phnom Penh guesthouse early on Tuesday with marks on her neck indicative of strangulation.

The main suspect is an unidentified man who arrived at 4 p.m. on Monday at the O’Yes Guesthouse in Daun Penh district’s Srah Chak commune and stayed overnight with the victim, commune police chief Kann Vannak said.

The victim, believed to be in her early 30s, arrived at the guesthouse at 5 p.m. to join the suspect, he said.

“When it was time to clean the room, [staff] knocked on the door, but there was no response,” Mr. Vannak said.

Staff later unlocked the room to find the woman’s body wrapped in a blanket and alerted police at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The identities of both the victim and the suspect are currently unknown as the guesthouse did not record any personal information. The victim’s body is being kept at Stung Meanchey pagoda awaiting identification so that relatives can be informed.
