Tuk-Tuk Driver Fatally Shot in Drunken Dispute

A 27-year-old tuk-tuk driver was fatally shot in the back after a drunken dispute in Phnom Penh on Friday evening, according to a post on the National Police website on Saturday.

Lux Rim was shot by an unknown suspect at about 11:40 p.m. in Chamkar Mon district’s Tonle Bassac commune, deputy district police chief Heang Thareth is quoted as saying.

The suspect was driving a pink and black Honda Icon motorbike, and was holding a gold-colored gun, Mr. Thareth says.

He is described as tall with fair skin and wearing a cap, the deputy police chief adds.

Lux Rim was originally from Prey Veng province and was living in a rented house in Meanchey district’s Stung Meanchey commune, the post quotes Mr. Thareth as saying.

Police were looking for the suspect, he adds.

It was “a case of a verbal argument resulting from intoxication,” deputy municipal police chief Song Ly is quoted as saying.

District police chief Khin San declined to comment, referring questions to Mr. Thareth, who declined to comment by telephone.
