It beat the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the Taj Mahal in India and Mutianyu, a section of the Great Wall of China, among other landmarks.

Visitors referred to Angkor Wat as “majestic,” “memorable” and “like absolutely nothing else I’ve ever seen” in TripAdvisor reviews.

It’s the third year running that Angkor Wat has been named in the list’s top three, placing first in 2015 and third last year.

Built in the 12th century, the world’s largest religious monument is the main attraction at Angkor Archaeological Park, which had 2.2 million visitors last year.

In February, admission prices were increased for the first time in 25 years with a one-day ticket rising from $20 to $37.

Entry remains free for Cambodians and children under 12.
