Translator Stabs Wife to Death, Then Attempts Suicide

A 69-year-old Chinese-Cambodian translator has confessed to stabbing his wife to death at their Battambang province home before attempting to kill himself, officials said.

Tang Chi had been arguing with his wife, Seang Kun, 67, at their home in Battambang City’s Chamkar Samraong district on Tuesday when she stabbed him in the neck with a knife, deputy district police chief Dam Makara said on Wednesday.

During a bedside confession at the Battambang Provincial Hospital on Wednesday, Mr. Tang told police he then took the knife from his wife, who was previously married to his now-deceased brother, and stabbed her in the throat multiple times before stabbing himself in the stomach, Mr. Makara said.

Neighbors, who had reported hearing screams, took Mr. Tang to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition, he added.

District police later discovered Seang Kun’s body in the couple’s living room.

Ty Reaksmey, Leab deputy village chief, said the couple did not have a formal union, while the victim’s daughter said her mother had a “mental issue.”

Police said they would continue questioning Mr. Tang when his condition improved.
