Police in Kampot province say they are searching for a man who fled on foot after crashing his pickup truck into a motorbike carrying two sisters and a 6-month-old girl, killing all three.
The man, whom police have yet to identify, was speeding along National Road 3 in Kompong Trach district Sunday afternoon when he swung his Toyota Tacoma into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Honda Dream carrying the women and child, deputy district traffic police chief Seng Ratana said.
Mr. Ratana identified the victims as Plek Keo, 34, Min Chury, 23, and the latter’s infant daughter, Plong Sary.
“It happened because of the reckless behavior of the pickup truck driver,” he said.
Witnesses told police the driver ran into a rice field, he added. Investigators are attempting to contact the registered owner of the truck in the hope that she can point them to the driver, Mr. Ratana said.
“It’s really sad,” he said. “All drivers should be more careful because reckless driving kills innocent people.”
