Third Suspect Charged in $200K Garment Truck Heist

A man accused of involvement in the disappearance of $200,000 worth of garments from a container truck bound for the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port in February was charged on Tuesday with theft, officials said.

Neang Pitou, 21, a container truck driver, was arrested near the port on Monday morning, said Sek Sony, a deputy chief of the serious crimes bureau of the Preah Sihanouk provincial military police.

An empty container truck was found abandoned on National Road 4 in the province’s Kompong Seila district on February 19.

The garments, which had been headed to the port for export, were never found.

Pitou was questioned by provincial military police on Monday afternoon and at the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court on Tuesday, and was then charged with aggravated theft by Investigating Judge Plong Visal, Sony said.

Two others were still being sought in the case, he said.

Ban Sila, a deputy provincial military police commander, said two other suspects had previously been charged with theft in the early days of the investigation.
