Thai Boss Fatally Shot Cambodian Cassava Worker

A 31-year-old Cambodian man working on a cassava farm in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province was shot in the head by his Thai boss on Friday night following a dispute, according to officials, who added that the body was returned to the country on Saturday night.

“They had a verbal argument with each other,” said an immigration police official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with the media.

He said he did not know how many shots had been fired, the nature of the dispute, whether the boss had been arrested or other details.

A letter dated Saturday from the Cambodian consulate office in Sa Kaeo asked authorities at the border crossing to facilitate the transfer of Sar Ngi’s body back to his home province of Siem Reap.

The letter added that the shooting took place on Friday at 9:00 p.m. The victim’s body was picked up by his relatives at Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet International Checkpoint on Saturday night and taken to his homeland in Angkor Chum district’s Char Chhouk commune, the official added.
