Suspects Questioned Over Fatal Mini-Mart Shooting

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday questioned three suspects arrested over the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old employee of a convenience store in the city’s Daun Penh district on Saturday night, officials said.

Seun Chandarath had been with friends in front of the Only You Mini-Mart when one of them, Khieu Thornvandy, left to buy food, according to a report posted to the National Police’s website on Sunday.

When Mr. Thornvandy returned minutes later, he was being pursued by four or five men on two motorbikes and raced into the store, it said.

Seun Chandarath tried to stop the pursuers, according to the report, at which point a fight broke out and he was shot twice, dying shortly after.

Eng Hy, spokesman for the National Military Police, said on Monday that three suspects were arrested on Saturday night over an “argument,” but declined to comment further.

Municipal court spokesman Ly Sophana said the suspects were being held at military police headquarters last night after being questioned at the court, where they would return today.
