Suspect Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing in Kandal

A man accused of stabbing an internet cafe manager to death on Sunday in Kandal province was arrested on Monday afternoon in Siem Reap province, police officials said.

National Military Police spokesman Eng Hy said the suspect was arrested near a bus station by National Military Police and Siem Reap provincial police, and was being interrogated.

Brigadier General Hy declined further comment.

The suspect was a regular customer of Takhmao City cafe Krong Net, said the city’s police chief, Sim Buth Bundith, who declined to identify the suspect.

The manager was stabbed 13 times in the head and torso, Mr. Buth Bundith said.

“According to a witness’s answers and the surveillance camera, the killer called the victim to the bathroom by telling him that the toilet was clogged,” Kandal provincial police chief Eav Chamroeun wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday, identifying the victim as 21-year-old Rath Putha.

The suspect, described as about 20 years old, then fled the scene, the post says. It does not give a motivation for the killing.
