Salesman Charged With Having Sex With Minor

A Chinese salesman at a Siem Reap City souvenir shop was charged on Wednesday with having sex with a 13-year-old cleaner who worked at the shop, police said on Wednesday.

Yang Jiachuan, 32, was arrested on Tuesday morning at the shop after the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with provincial police against him last Thursday, according to Chea Heng, deputy chief of Siem Reap provincial police’s anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection office.

Mr. Heng said the girl’s mother, who also works as a cleaner at the shop, caught the pair “having sex in the bathroom.”

Under questioning, Mr. Jiachuan admitted to having sex with the girl on two occasions, but said it was consensual—the legal age of consent is 15.

Duong Thavary, the province’s anti-human trafficking police chief, said Mr. Yang was sent to the provincial prison on Wednesday afternoon after being charged with having sex with a minor under the law on suppression of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, a crime that carries a five- to 10-year prison sentence.
