Retired Teachers Knifed While Fleeing Home

Police are searching for a man who set alight some papers outside the home of a pair of retired high school teachers and yelled “Fire! Fire!” to get them to leave through the front door, before attacking them with a knife, a police official said.

The couple, who were hacked and stabbed early on Monday in O’Taki commune in Battambang province’s Thma Koul district, were seriously injured and could not provide many details of the attack, deputy district police chief Heang Buntha said on Monday.

He said the two—Hun Yorn, 62, and Rom Savy, 46—were being treated at a Battambang City hospital. The suspect, whom the couple identified but whose name authorities have not released, first attacked Mr. Yorn after luring him out of his home when the fire started.

When his wife then came out after him, “the suspect started to stab the wife in the belly twice,” Mr. Buntha said.

He cited revenge as a possible motive, but provided no details to support the theory.
