Police Hunt for Man Over Fatal Beating of Baby

Police on Sunday were searching for a 30-year-old man who fatally beat a baby with a brick and injured two other children in Battambang province after his neighbor accused him of molesting her daughter.

The victim’s mother confronted her neighbor at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday after her 11-year-old daughter cried out from the bathroom beside their home in Santepheap commune’s Kilo 13 village, said Pich Saren, police chief for Sampov Loun district.

“When the girl was taking a bath, the suspect hugged and kissed her,” and her cries alerted her mother, Mr. Saren said on Friday.

The suspect became furious after the victim’s mother confronted him, and then beat the mother and girl with a brick.

He then ran into their house, killed a month-old baby girl and injured a 4-year-old boy who had been sleeping, Mr. Saran said.

The suspect, identified only as Sey, remained at large on Sunday, said Chet Vanny, deputy Battambang provincial police chief.

The mother and her other two children, who all sustained head injuries, were recovering in the hospital, police said.
