Police Find Woman’s Body Near Vietnamese Border

Police say they are investigating the suspected murder of a 30-year-old Cambodian woman whose body was found on Sunday by officers on patrol along the Vietnamese border in Mondolkiri province.

Sun Bun Thoeun, Keo Seima district police chief, said the body of Kret Sreymom, a rice farmer, was found in the afternoon, naked from the waist down and facedown across a pathway in a forested area close to the border.

The border police who discovered the body reported it to district police, who are working with provincial police to investigate the case, he said.

Police suspect that the woman died on Friday based on the level of decomposition of the body, which has been returned to the victim’s family, he added.

Provincial police chief Toch Yon said the woman’s brother-in-law was a suspect in her murder, but declined to elaborate because the investigation was ongoing.

So Sovichea, deputy provincial court prosecutor, said he was aware of the case and had requested that police continue their investigation.
