Plantation Security Guard Survives Murder Attempt

Police in Kompong Thom province are investigating the attempted murder of a plantation security guard who was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant on Monday night, an official said on Tuesday.

Keo Khorn, 38, was asleep in a crude shelter on the cassava plantation in Baray district when the gunman opened fire with a handgun shortly before midnight, according to Chea Phoeun, chief of the provincial police’s serious crimes bureau.

“An unknown suspect shot six times, but only three bullets hit his body,” Mr. Phoeun said, adding that farmhands sleeping nearby heard the shots and contacted Mr. Khorn’s family, who then rushed him to the Kompong Cham provincial referral hospital for emergency surgery.

Mr. Phoeun said that he did not know where in the body Mr. Khorn had been hit but that he remained in a “bad condition.”

“I think this was not a robbery case because the victim is a worker and very poor…. It may involve personal revenge,” he said. “This morning, we found six Glock shells near the scene, and we are investigating.”
